Indian Creek Online Academy serves grades 6-12 and students will take core courses like English, Math, Science, History, and Art along with guided elective courses. Students have the opportunity to pick a pathway of College, Career, or Armed Forces. Easy to use progress tools help the student stay on track. Parents can review their student’s grade book and pace to help motivate their student. The state approved courses can be reviewed below.

Academic Calendar

Our calendar indicates the days and times that the ICOA staff and teachers are available for student support. The ICOA’s expectations for the students are that the student has to stay on pace to complete 6 courses per semester.

Indian Creek Online Academy’s calendar indicates the days and times that the ICOA staff and teachers are available for student support. The online curriculum provides for flexibility within that calendar such that a student has 24/7 access to their online courses. The flexibility gives the student the opportunity to work, play sports, have hands-on real-world learning, accelerate in courses, and manage life’s difficult challenges. Graduation Pathways

With the passage of Graduation Pathways, students are now able to individualize their graduation requirements to align to their postsecondary goal. No longer must all students fit into the same academic mold, but rather, they can choose the options that best meet their postsecondary needs and aspirations. Students can create pathways that serve their educational interests and prepares them for postsecondary educational and career opportunities.

General Questions

WHAT GRADES ARE OFFERED BY INDIAN CREEK ONLINE ACADEMY?

ICOA offers full time enrollment only for grades 6-12 for the 2019-2020 school year.

DOES ICOA PROVIDE TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS?

ICOA does not provide textbooks. All course material is performed online.

CAN MY STUDENT WORK AT THEIR OWN PACE?

Students must complete 6 courses per semester. The student can accelerate their pace and can slow their pace on different assignments, but the student needs to complete 6 courses in a semester. The student will need to complete approximately 5% in each course each week to stay on pace to complete 6 courses in a semester.

WHAT SUBJECTS WILL MY CHILD STUDY?

Students will study Language Arts/English, Math, Science, History and core courses. Students will also have elective courses. Our goal at ICOA is to provide and educational program that meets state guidelines for an accredited public-school institution.

DOES ICOA PROVIDE FOR SPECIAL NEEDS STUDENTS?

ICOA will review the child’s Individualize Educational Program and can tailor the educational program to the student’s needs. Please complete the enrollment form and indicate the IEP needs on the enrollment form and a staff member will review specific details.

HOW MUCH TIME DO STUDENTS SPEND ON THE COMPUTER?

The time spent on a computer for each student can vary as long as the pace requirements are met to complete 6 courses in a semester. Our estimate is approximately 5 hours per day on computer assignments, tests, reading, preparation for tests, and other social events. We encourage students to spend time in real world activities like working, visiting museums, visiting historical sites, internet surfing, visiting national parks, etc. as part of their education participation.

HOW DOES THE STUDENT ENROLL?

The student or parent/guardian can submit an application and the ICOA Student Services staff will help complete the enrollment process.

CONNECTIVITY REQUIREMENTS

Students and learning coaches can log into the Indian Creek Online Academy (ICOA) curriculum from various devices, such as a mobile phone, tablet, or desktop computer.

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE

ICOA recommends that students and coaches update internet browsers and the software on a regular basis. Please review the following connectivity recommendations:

MOBILE DEVICES AND THIRD-PARTY CURRICULUM

Mobile devices may not be fully compatible and provide optimum experience with curriculum platforms.

BROADBAND CONNECTION IS REQUIRED.

The FCC Household Broadband Guide (www.fcc.gov/research-reports/guides/household-broadband-guide) provides an outline on broadband speed vs. use. For two or more students, a minimum download speed of 12 Mbps should be requested from your ISP. As more users and devices are added (computers, gaming consoles, streaming devices) a download speed of 25Mbps should be requested. Performance issues may be experienced when using a satellite connection. Performance issues may be experienced with inadequate broadband service.

For Live sessions and other visual content, the following ports need to be open: TCP and UDP ports 80, 443, and 1935. These are open by default unless they have closed. Please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to discuss options for opening the ports.

Data usage: Please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to discuss your options. A rough estimate for a student’s expectations of data use for their ICOA studies only is approximately 2 GB/month.

COMPUTER AND HARDWARE

ICOA families may request one computer per household if the student or students do not have a computer of their own.

INTERNET SERVICE

A household may request a subsidy to apply towards the cost of in-home internet service. The Student Handbook will reference the payment schedule details. The household is responsible for obtaining an internet service provider.

PRINTER

Each household is responsible to provide their own printer.
